Better Outcomes. Not Perfection.
The name
Microsoft is an apt and clear representation of its software products that were originally designed to run on microprocessors
Intel’s generations of chipsetsꭞ are encoded in their numbering system.
The number 2140 represents my career and product milestones. My career started serendipitously as a software developer when I turned 21 years.
ꭞThe chipset is basically the electronics on the motherboard that communicate with all the connected components
Macroplan 2140® is inspired by naming conventions adopted by two giants of technology, viz. Microsoft and Intel
Macroplan 2140® developed green shoots in 2021, co-incidentally around the 40-year milestone of my career.
The History
c.1985
Version 1.0 of these models was created after successfully launching a Retail Asset Banking product for a global retail bank in London.
~ 200,000 lines of Fortran77 code were reverse engineered by manually parsing the code, to develop functional requirements, in 3 months by 7 talented software engineers. These specifications were the basis for a rewrite of a "state of the art" bespoke 3-tier client server application.
The Problem: The design-build-test-deployment effort was grossly underestimated, on the basis of one "representative" Fortran77 program. The launch milestone was achieved on the backs of heroic effort by a team of 30-40 software engineers, all of whom worked 14-16 hour days, 7 days a week (1 Jan 1985 was the only day off), for 6 months.
c.1995
Version 2.0 was created to enable a small consulting organization to estimate effort for client system integration engagements.
Various iterations and forms of the models were customized to respond to more than 40 client requests with fixed-fee arrangements.
The Result: The models were instrumental to the organization's 35-fold sales growth and 20-fold revenue growth in 3 years
c.2000
Version 3.0 extended the models to incorporate broader business functions, including Product Management, Operations, Sales & Marketing and L&C functions.
The Result: Successful launch of 2 major products (and related services) to serve global clients.
c.2006
Version 4.0 incorporated Managed Service components.
The Result: Successful launch of a Managed Service offering to financial service clients globally.
c.2014
Version 5.0 was customized for multi-year transformation programs across all Lines of Business and Control Functions in global locations, at large financial services organizations.
